Parents/Guardians,
I kindly ask that you please avoid telling your children in advance that they may go home during the school day if they “don’t feel good.” When students come to the health office expecting to be sent home, it can make it harder for them to accurately express how they’re feeling and for us to properly assess their symptoms.
Our goal is always to keep students safe, healthy, and in class whenever possible. Children who arrive already believing they should go home often become more anxious or distressed, which can make minor issues feel more severe. In many cases, short rest, hydration, or simple care helps them feel better and return to learning.
If your child is truly ill or has symptoms that meet criteria for going home, we will always contact you promptly. If you feel as though your child may become ill at school, please keep them at home so that they may rest and recuperate.
If your child vomits, has diarrhea, and/or a fever, they must remain out of school for 24hrs after their last episode of vomiting/diarrhea as well as 24hrs fever free without the use of medication.
Stay Warm!
Nurse Cassie
