Good afternoon AWRSD students, staff and families,
Thank you for another week of positive and productive learning.
Yesterday, Oakmont juniors and seniors listened to nationally recognized motivational speaker and Oakmont alum
Ed Kressy who spoke about his path to addiction and subsequent journey to recovery and about the importance of
positive decision-making. Members of the ORHS music program participated in the Great East music festival
today as well. I am very much looking forward to the Overlook Middle School Drama Club’s presentation of
Frozen Junior this weekend. There are shows today and tomorrow evening, both at 7 PM and Sunday at 1 PM in
the ORHS auditorium. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. Our 5th graders at JRB and WES are now
counting the days remaining before their upcoming Nature’s Classroom experience!
The Gardner Community Action Team (GCAT) has graciously shared with us free access to the movie Angst for
any interested AWRSD families. Angst is a film-based education program designed to raise awareness around
anxiety, with an emphasis on youth and families. The film includes interviews with children, teens, parents and
mental health experts. This film is geared towards children ages 10 and up and can be viewed HERE for free any
time between now and May 18.
The 2022-2023 school calendar was recently approved by the School Committee and can be found HERE.
Over the past week, we have seen increasing numbers of students and staff with illness. We are seeing an uptick of
COVID-19 cases in the community as well as increased diagnosed cases of influenza along with common colds,
stomach bugs and seasonal allergies. Please continue to be vigilant with hand washing, keep students home when ill and check with your child’s school nurse if you have any specific questions around isolation or other protocols.
COVID-19 pool testing and take-home tests remain available to all. Please visit the AWRSD health services page
found HERE to sign up for either program.
Thank you for your continued support and collaboration. Have a great weekend!
