Superintendent's Message

May 27, 2022

Dear AWRSD students, staff and families,

Thank you for another positive and productive week of learning. Getting to see some of our 5th graders enjoying the
outdoors at Nature’s Classroom yesterday and speaking to many of our graduating seniors on their last official day
of class for me have been definite highlights this week.

I know that the tragic school shooting in Texas earlier this week has weighed heavily on many of us all week. As I
stated in my earlier correspondence to you all this week, keeping all of our students and staff safe is always our top
priority and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that all of our schools are as safe as they can possibly be.
We will also continue to grow and enhance our programs and strategies to support students with their social-emotional well-being and mental health. Additionally, we will continue to proactively teach and remind all that
bystanders, those of us who see, hear or know of something while not being directly involved, can and should take
an active role in reporting issues to trusted adults to ensure that others get the help that they need. I would ask all
students, family members and staff members to do their part in school, and in the community, to be active rather
than passive bystanders to help ensure the safety and security of all.

As we enter this Memorial Day Weekend, I would also ask that we all take a moment to remember, appreciate and
thank those who have defended our country and especially remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our
freedom. To each of them, we owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude.

Sincerely,

Dr. Todd Stewart
Superintendent of Schools
