Principal’s Report

David Marble was present and reminded everyone that the WES Talent Show will be presented on Friday March 9th at 7:00pm in the WES Café for parents and siblings. The students got to see the show today and everything went smoothly. The children were very encouraging towards their classmates who performed and this was wonderful to see. David especially thanked Patty Marquis, Ms. Banning, Terry Miller and Kerry Miller for all their efforts. David emphasized that with progress reports and conferences coming soon, communication between parents and staff are very important. Questions that parents might have regarding the format, content, etc. about conferences or progress reports can always be addressed by the school staff. During conferences, David encouraged parents to focus on how to make the rest of the school year successful, not just plan for the next year. David also informed everyone that the new coordinator of the Community Breakfast effort is Missy Banks. This effort was started 4years ago in order to encourage business men and women in our community to become more familiar with our schools and to allow our schools to become an active part of the community. Local business people and school staff gather for breakfast in our café to listen to a speaker and share information. This has been very successful and several companies like Simplex Grinnell have donated money to fund a variety of school events (ie: 5th Grade Promotion Night, Dating/Violence Awareness at Overlook Middle School, Briggs Professional Development). David indicated that he was speaking for Missy Banks when asking if the PTO would supply $400 to cover the cost of mailings and food. KC McNally motioned for $400 for Community Breakfast, seconded by Jackie Rouisse, all approved.

School Improvement Council Update

David Marble reported for this council. He informed everyone that Lynn Breau, Monica Blessington and he are trying to coordinate a budget forum for parents and community members with Dr. Zapantis. They will meet and discuss possible dates and times for the very near future.

Kindergarten Orientation

Nikki Browell reported that there was approximately a 70% turnout for the initial meeting with parents only. There are over 100 registered students for the incoming kindergarten class, fall 2007. Nikki made a motion at this time for $500 for this committee to cover the book expenses which was seconded by Jenn Dewey, all approved.

Spaghetti Supper

Colleen Cole reported that this event is proceeding very well and will take place on April 5 at the WES café from 4-7pm. BJ’s will be making a donation as well as other community donations. There will be a lot more raffles and Mr. Lucander will be asked to have the Jazz ensemble perform again. Patty Marquis will be coordinating the teachers to serve as wait staff. Each classroom will also be creating a flowerpot with their handprints as decorations as center pieces for the tables. There will be a number of gift baskets up for raffle and if anyone has any items to donate as well as tissue paper for these baskets they should contact Colleen Cole or Renee DalBon.

Friendly’s Family Fun Night

Lynn Breau informed everyone that this event was fun and successful. The total profit for this event was $266.00.

Exploring Internet Safety

Wendy Maillet reported for this event because Officer Ralph LeBlanc had to work this evening. Wendy informed all that Ralph will be holding this highly informative seminar for parents and community members on Tuesday, April 3rd at the WES library from 6:30-8:30pm. Wendy urged everyone to attend as this will be a multimedia presentation in which Officer LeBlanc clearly demonstrates how parents can keep their children safe while exploring the Internet. The PTO babysitting committee was asked to possibly find sitters for this event. Jenn Dewey and Monica Blessington will be working with Wendy to line up sitters.

Child Safety Featuring John Bish

David Marble reported regarding this upcoming event. Due to the number of activities taking place the first week in April, David said that he would contact John about holding this event closer to the CHIPS event in May. Also, the possibility of holding this event at Overlook Middle School to attract a larger audience was discussed. Lynn Breau also discussed possibly having the PTO make a donation to The Molly Bish Foundation because John Bish will be speaking for free. Nikki Browell made a motion for $500, seconded by KC McNally, all approved.

Treasurer’s Report

Kim Samson presented the Treasurer’s report. Jenn Dewey motioned to accept this report, seconded by KC McNally, all approved.

Bookfair

Kim Samson reported that the Book fair has been set up at MHS and set up will occur at WES Saturday morning at 8:30am and volunteers are welcome. There are still time slots that need to be covered during the week and volunteers for this committee are encouraged to get in touch with either Kim Samson, Joanne Reed, Amy Follansbee, Christine Macchia or Wendy Maillet for available hours.

Boxtops

Kim Samson informed all that on 2/28/07, she sent in a boxtops order totaling $500.00 from both schools. We will receive this check at the end of the year. The boxtop contest held in conjunction with the bookfair, will award $50 in books to the winning classroom.

Hero Art

Kim Samson reported that this event has been scheduled for Sunday, May 20th at 2:00pm at Oakmont High school. The artist will be faxing us a list of theme selections for us to choose from. This event will be advertised on the local access channel and information regarding ticket sales will also be on the loop at Overlook, Briggs and Oakmont.

Wish List

Ina Carey requested a final wish list item for Mrs. Estelle. Melinda needs two pre puberty videos at a cost of $34.98 each for a total of $77.96. Ina motioned for $51.00 because there is still approximately $26.24 left in this account, seconded by KC McNally, all approved.
