What is the first thing you think about when biotechnology is mentioned - beer or sheep? You'll be surprised by the biotech timeline....

This webquest has a few underlying assumptions or understandings....

• Each student must have a good understanding of "the basics" as outlined on "the Basics" page.
• Subject matter  content and activities are appropriate and designed for middle schoolers enrolled in modular technology education classes.
• Hands-on design and discovery projects, not just "book work", are required of each of the 3 offered "strands".
• Covered material is meant to build on prior student knowledge and foster an interdisciplinary approach to understanding concepts covered in this webquest.
• All standards mentioned in Massachusetts (MCAS) and national technology education (ITEA) standards are addressed.
• Each of the 3 "strands" will have a TEACHER PROJECT OVERVIEW and a STUDENT PROJECT.
• Students will maintain a portfolio for assessment which will include a pre-test and post-test and evidence of project understanding and completion.
