6th GRADE COURSE OUTLINE
The Grade 6 course is based on the American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Curriculum. Students learn about child development, child care, accident prevention and first aid. Students become aware of the importance of play and how to prepare suitable snacks for children. Students will receive one homework assignment per week; and will create a child’s book. Responsibilities are stressed and students may be eligible to receive a certificate of attendance from the American Red Cross. A unit on puberty and sex education is also included in the Health Curriculum.

7th GRADE COURSE OUTLINE
Grade seven students are introduced to basic nutrition which will enable them to make healthy food choices. Health topics such as eating disorders, food related illnesses and consumer practices are presented. Students prepare food and learn safe kitchen management skills. They learn how to set a table and use good table manners.

8th GRADE COURSE OUTLINE
The eighth grade course is divided into two components. During one half of the course, students are introduced to basic hand and machine sewing and complete a textile project. During the second half, various health topics are discussed. Students learn about the health issues involved in the use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco and investigate personal decision-making and refusal skills. Students are made aware of the implications surrounding friendship, dating, and sexuality. They acquire insight into the seriousness of teen parenting and suicide.
