A WebQuest for 8th Grade World Language

Designed by Mrs. Couture

Introduction

You have learned lots of vocabulary this cycle that better describes life in Spanish-speaking countries.  To finish the cycle and put all our fantastic vocabulary to use, you are going to research one of these countries and describe details about it in both Spanish and English.

----------------------------------------------------

The Task

You must report on a Spanish-speaking country of South America.  They include:

·             Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, Bolivia, Chile, and Paraguay

The teacher will assign a country to each group.

----------------------------------------------------

The Process

To accomplish the task, you must do the following:

1.You'll be assigned to a team of 4 students. You will work in the library using both written and Internet resources.  Two students will work with one resource, while the other two work with the other.  Your final report will be displayed visually on a poster board and the sentences will be hand written or typed out on a separate piece of paper.

2.¿Cómo es el país? You must give all the pertinent logistical information about your country including:

à                  Nombre del país

à                  El capital

à                  Lenguajes oficiales

à                  Populación

à                  El nombre de la/el Presidente

à                  El nombre del dinero y su conversión a dólares

à                  El ingreso per capita

à                  Un mapa del país – drawn by hand

à                  La bandera – drawn by hand

You may put all this information on your poster!

3.¿Qué tiempo hace en las regiones diferentes del país?  Write these answers in complete Spanish sentences, describing both the temperature and weather conditions according to each region or each season.

4.¿Qué ropa llevan las personas del país?  You must research the typical clothing of the country.  Doing so, you must draw a male and a female wearing the authentic clothing then describe them and their colors in complete Spanish sentences. (Your drawings will go on your poster!) Remember, members from different socio-economic or ethnic groups may wear different clothing.  Be sure to distinguish who actually wears what!

5. ¿Cómo son las casas en el país? How do the people in your country live?  What are there houses like?  In English, describe the typical housing in your country.  How do the elite live?  What about the lower class?  What are their family situations like?  Write a paragraph detailing the housing accommodations.
