Spread the Word
Book Recycling Program

Over the course
of two weeks the Spirit Council collected 2,000 books, which were checked and boxed,
and donated to the Spread the
Word program sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Education. Books
collected go directly into the hands of needy children across Massachusetts. "Spread
the Word" gives these children the opportunity to develop reading and writing skills
at home, and to discover a love of reading.
Mrs. Crowley's homeroom donated a grand total of 270 books, and they will be receiving a
pizza party in recognition of their efforts. We would like to thank all those Overlook
students who donated books to this program. Overlook students continue to show how they
care about others.
This project was organized by the Spirit Council. The idea to collect books, and then
donate them back to the community, came directly from our students. They are all to be
commended for organizing this worthwhile community service project.
Spirit Council participants are Julie , Tanya , Melissa , Emily , Sandra , and Sarah .
Here are some Spirit Council members checking the many books
donated.
The books are being checked to make sure they are suitable for grades
K-3,
and that they are in good condition.
.
The books went to the Blackstone School in Dorchester.
Well done, Spirit Council!
