Overlook SOAR Program
Overlook Students SOAR!
Student /Staff Over Achievement Recognition Program
In the fall of 1996, a committee was formed to discuss additional ways we could recognize students for achievement. The discussions led to the creation of SOAR or Student/Staff Over Achievement Recognition Program. The committee developed a mission statement and goals for the program. The program has two levels of recognition: SOAR ID cards and Caught Being Good Cards. Students who receive these cards are eligible for discounts from area businesses and chances for prizes through weekly, monthly, term, and end of the year drawings. Each student will receive information about this program at the beginning of each school year.
SOAR Mission Statement
The Overlook Middle School SOAR program celebrates students who achieve excellence in our school community.
Overlook Middle School, the towns of Ashburnham and Westminster, and the local business community join together to acknowledge and reward student achievement.
The SOAR program recognizes academic excellence, leadership, citizenship, personal responsibility, and involvement in the school community.

One of the goals of the Carnegie Corporation's Turning Points report stated that middle schools need to connect with their local community. Specifically, it states "using community services to enrich the instructional program." A committee of 26 people (twelve students and 14 adults - parents, community members, staff, and administrators) has developed the SOAR program.
