Mission Statement

Recognizing the unique needs of our early adolescent students, the staff of Overlook Middle School is dedicated to ensuring a successful transition from middle school to high school by: 

* Providing a caring, welcoming, supportive environment for all

* Teaching a standards-based curriculum, fostering intellectual, emotional, physical and social development

* Cultivating individual strengths and talents within a heterogeneous environment

* Collaborating and communicating with parents and the extended community

* Developing learners who value, respect and accept the diversity of others.

Goals

Our school will:

Provide for the development of excellence in the basic skills of reading, writing, calculating, speaking, listening, thinking, analyzing, and concluding.

Create a learning environment that meets the individual needs and abilities of all students.

Use a variety of instructional techniques that actively involve students in the learning process with reference to problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Provide the opportunity for students to learn and utilize independent study skills.

Provide enriching opportunities that develop intellectual curiosity and creativity.

Provide the opportunity or students to learn, develop, and practice those interpersonal skills needed to understand and accept those who are different.

Provide a wide range of exploratory activities for socialization and enrichment of leisure experiences and interests.

Provide systems of communication for parents and students that will result in a better understanding of the school goals and will enable students to achieve success, in a positive manner, in their academics and personal development.

Involve parents in various aspects of the school experience.

Build on the educational concepts from the elementary school experience and prepare students for success at the high school.

*  Continue to improve academic opportunities for all students.
*   To continue to provide a positive and nurturing learning environment for all students and staff.
*   To ensure a safe and respectful environment for all members of the Overlook community.
*  To establish and support a budget that will adequately provide for all school programs and activities.
*   To continue to promote parental and community involvement in Overlook programs.
