School-Wide Reading Program
2009-10Never judge a book by its movie.
~ J. W. Eagan ~Below you will find links to REQUIRED reading and recommended reading for the 2009-2010 school year. All students are responsible for reading at least TWO books prior to their courses next year. You need to read at least one book for your English course and at least one book for your Social Studies course. This is true whether you are taking the course first or second semester. In addition to the required list, some Oakmont courses have recommended reading for extra credit in a course.
A response sheet is also included below. Use the response sheet to record your understanding of each book and give it to your teacher. Your teacher may have additional class assignments as well. Note that some courses have particular requirements (e.g., Humanities, AP English, and AP U.S. History).
We advise that you look at the list right away and get started on your reading early in the summer. The books are available at local libraries, bookstores, and on-line vendors such as Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and half.com. Enjoy your reading!
