New York Metal Sculpture Artist John Sharp visits Oakmont Art Students

On October 27, 2009, New York Metal Sculpture Artist, John Sharp visits Oakmont Regional High School Visual Arts Department. Mr. and Mrs. Barry believe that, even though they cannot offer a sculpture course, that it is vital to expose the artistic minds of Oakmont Regional to sculpture, art and artists. Tuesday, October 27th, we were lucky enough to have John Sharp, an artist, welder and forger, come visit us. He explained his process in becoming a sculpture artist: how he started off as an excavator who just wanted to fix his own tools. We were able to view a lot of his smaller sculptures, and see pictures of his larger ones. That alone was impressive, to say the least. Towards the end of the class period, we were able to get hands on with the metal itself; cutting and hammering it with our own hands. It was truly an educational and inspiring experience.
