Oakmont Announces 2007 College Board Scores

Ashburnham, MA – August 30, 2007 - The College Board released statewide 2007 SAT Reasoning Test and Advanced Placement Test results for high schools in Massachusetts last week.

The SAT Reasoning Test is one of the primary factors upon which college admissions decisions are based. Oakmont students who took the SAT Reasoning Test this year achieved the following results:

The Math score represented a 5 point increase from the 2006 score and was 21 points above the state mean score. The Writing score was also 5 points higher than last year and was 19 points higher than the state mean. Critical Reading scored a 2 point decrease from 2006, but was still 11 points higher than the Massachusetts mean score.

"We're extremely proud of our students' SAT Reasoning Test scores, particularly as they stack up against the state average," said Oakmont Principal David P. Uminski. "Although there's always room for improvement, these results show that our students work hard and our teachers do a great job preparing students for college-level work."

Students who achieved a score of 3 or higher on the Advanced Placement Tests are eligible to receive college credit at most colleges and universities. Successful AP test scores can save students and families thousands of dollars in college tuition costs. Of the 76 Advanced Placement tests that were taken at Oakmont in 2007, nearly 91%, or 69 test grades, met or exceeded the standard for college credit.

"Advanced Placement tests are taken after students complete rigorous, challenging AP courses at Oakmont," explained Uminski. "Once again, these scores demonstrate that we have many academically gifted scholars at Oakmont and our AP curriculum and teachers are achieving great results."

"Ashburnham-Westminster Schools maintain high expectations for all students and these results support a can do attitude," said Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Michael Zapantis.
