Course Selection 2005-2006
The course selection process for next year's classes is as follows:
January 27 -- Grade 8 Parent Orientation, 7:30 p.m. – Oakmont Auditorium
January 31 -- Grade 8 students will select courses with the assistance of Oakmont and Overlook counselors
February 10 -- Grades 9-11 Parent Course Selection Meeting, 6:30 p.m. -- Oakmont Auditorium
Grade 9, 10 and 11 students will meet individually with their counselors to select courses. The process will begin with juniors on February 1, 2005.
Students and parents are asked to give considerable thought to this process in order to better ensure appropriate placement for the 2005-06 school year.
Junior Parent College Planning Night
On Thursday, March 31 there will be a College Planning Night program in the Oakmont Auditorium for parents of Juniors. Parental involvement and support is essential during the next year. Knowing what to expect in your student’s college planning reduces everyone’s anxieties and makes for a more productive process. This will be a “soup-to-nuts” presentation on post-secondary planning. Don’t miss it!
Parents of Seniors
A special thank you from the guidance counselors to all of you who filled out the “parent brag sheets” last August. They were a most helpful adjunct to the college recommendation process.
Making College Financial Planning Count: A presentation for parents of children of all ages on how to plan for and manage college costs, the financial aid process and much more, on Thursday April 7, 2005 at 7:00 PM in the Oakmont Auditorium.
It’s FAFSA Time!
Seniors: Your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) forms should be filed during the month of January, if possible. This form must be submitted in order to be eligible for any federal and state financial aid. Forms are available in the Guidance Office along with the Title V code numbers that you may need. Try to mail the FAFSA as soon as possible, or file on-line at HERE.
(Also - all eighteen-year-old males - don’t forget to register for the Selective Service System - failure to do so will effect your financial aid eligibility! You may register on line HERE or see Mr. Denny in the Guidance Office.)
