Truancy

Absences that do not conform to excused reasons will be recorded as truancy. Any student who is absent from school without a parental excusal will be considered truant. A student will be considered truant if the absence is unexcused. Students who are truant may face the following consequences:

  1. Administrative contact with parent or guardian
  2. Student will receive a zero for all classroom work missed, including tests/quizzes, projects etc.
  3. In-school counseling may be recommended.
  4. Truant officers may be notified to investigate an absence.
  5. A truancy complaint may be filed in juvenile court.
  6. Refer to Disciplinary Offense Code for possible punishment.
  7. Students under sixteen years of age may be apprehended by police in accordance with state law.
  8. Repeated truancy for students under sixteen years of age will result in filing a Child in Need of Services (CHINS) petition in juvenile court.
