In order for a student to graduate from Oakmont, 26 credits are required. Within this overall credit requirement, there are certain courses that are required for all students:
4 credits in English Required Courses for Graduation:
- English 9 or Humanities
- English 10
- English 11 or American Studies
- English 12 or Advanced Placement English
3 credits in Social Studies Required Courses for Graduation:
- World History or Humanities
- U.S. History 10
- U.S. History 11 or American Studies or Advanced Placement U.S. History
3 Credits in Mathematics courses 3 credits in Science (Biology is required for graduation.) .5 credit in Computers & Technology (or a passing score on the Technology Competency Examination) 1 credit in Health (Health and Human Behavior and Health and Safety are required for graduation.) 1.5 credits in Physical Education (Three semesters of Fitness Education are required for graduation.) 10 Elective credits which may be selected from any content area (NOTE: Students who plan to attend a four-year college are strongly encouraged to earn at least two credits in one of the Foreign Languages.) 26 Credits total All Oakmont students in grades 9 through 12 are required to select a minimum of the equivalent of seven (7) one-credit courses each year. Credits are cumulative each year and to be considered an academically qualified Sophomore requires a minimum of six (6) credits; a qualified Junior twelve (12) credits; and a qualified Senior eighteen (18) credits. In order to graduate, a senior must pass the equivalent of six (6) full credit courses and earn six (6) credits. “D” is considered passing but earns only .50 credits during senior year at Oakmont.
