School Committee Corner:
The Ashburnham-Westminster Regional School Committee has worked tirelessly over the course of this past year and, needless to say, its extremely disappointing that our efforts were not able to garner a positive result at the polls on June 11th. This disappointment will be short-lived, however; we will take stock of the current situation and find a way to rise to the challenge. This School District has always been, and will continue to be, incredibly resilient. We have weathered many storms and have always managed to come out on the other side both stronger and wiser. This time will be no different.
Undoubtedly, our Committee will be called upon to make some very difficult decisions in the coming weeks and months. These decisions will directly affect the quality of education in this District, and as such, we will take great pains to ensure that these decisions yield the best possible educational opportunities for the children of Ashburnham and Westminster.
We call upon our two communities to help us during this challenging time. Ashburnham and Westminster have always placed a premium on education and have repeatedly shown great support for their schools. Even with failed overrides, we should all be cognizant of the fact that support comes in many different forms. People have rallied behind their schools and have been a great source of strength. We need that same level of commitment and community involvement now.
The School Committee has scheduled a meeting for Monday, June 17th at 7:30 p.m. in the Overlook Team Room. This meeting has been scheduled so that we can review the various options that are available to us as a Committee and decide how to proceed from there. Regardless of any decisions that are made, the law requires us to re-certify a budget number and submit that new number to the two towns.
If you have any questions/concerns regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact the School Committee c/o the Superintendent, 2 Narrows Rd. -Suite 101, Westminster, MA 01473-1619.
