College-bound students are encouraged in their sophomore year to begin gathering information on college/universities and exploring a college major based on personal interest and ability. Students should review materials in the Guidance Office and send for college catalogs. Online resources may be accessed through the Oakmont Guidance Department webpage. The College Board “My Road” software is a resource introduced in the Computers and Careers Program grade 10. It is available to all students as a planning tool in the guidance office.

College bound Sophomores and Juniors should take the PSAT/NMSQT in October, Juniors should take the College Board SAT Reasoning Test in May or June and the SAT Subject Test may be taken in January and June, if required by specific colleges. Students are advised to begin their college visits with their parents during the spring and summer vacations of their Junior year.

During the Senior year, students should complete and submit college applications to the guidance office by December 1 and retake the SAT Reasoning Test and SAT Subject Test in the Fall, typically in October, November or December.
