Student Activity: Author Brochures
You and a partner will be using library resources to complete a CREATIVE project that will provide insight into the life of author (and survivor of the Holocaust) Elie Wiesel. The purpose of this activity is to help you connect with and understand Wiesel as both a real person and a non-fiction writer.
Author brochure project is an "in-class" project. You will be working in-class for two consecutive days on the project. The final project is due: Wednesday, January 31, 2001.
DO NOT PRINT OUT ALL OF YOUR INFORMATION! I WANT YOU TO TAKE NOTES AS YOU VISIT EACH PARTICULAR SITE!!
I. Library Research: Each of you will research Elie Wiesel's life and works through use of specific Internet sites. Use each of the following sites to gather important information about Wiesel, the novel, and the Holocaust. This information will be used to create an author brochure.
II. Author Brochure: After you and your partner have gathered adequate information regarding Elie Wiesel's life, you need to create a CREATIVE author brochure. This brochure must:
- include as much information as possible about birthdate/birthplace, life during the Holocaust, writing influences/experiences, family, past/present beliefs, etc.
- contain three parts: a cover, one inside flap, and full-page inside.
- original visual representations (artwork, picture cut-outs, copies of information, etc.) and creative ideas
- be clearly organized and typed. (Suggestion: Divide your brochure into three or four distinct parts-this will help you organize facts and ideas.)
Grading Policy
You can receive a total of 5 points for each of the described areas above. (bulleted items) The highest possible score is 20/20. This grade will be counted as one (1) project grade.
