Pre-Columbian Civilizations WebQuest: Process


Task 1 ~ Using the websites create a timeline with the dates of the beginnings of each of the following cultures:

·       Aztecs

·       Incas

·       Mayans

The final date will be the year of the arrival of Columbus in the Americas~ 1492

Attention- Super Explorers: Illustrate each date on your timeline with an image of that culture


Task 2 ~ Using an outline map provided by your teacher, label and illustrate the locations of the following locations:

* North America

* Central America

* South America

* Aztec Empire

* Incan Empire

* Mayan Empire

* Atlantic and Pacific Oceans

Attention Super explorers: Try creating your own map of the Americas!


Task 3 ~ Using the web sites, research one of the early civilizations. Using Microsoft Word write a newspaper article about that civilization. Your article should focus on how these people were different or similar to the people of today.

Attention Super Explorers: Create a political cartoon depicting some aspect of that culture.


Task 4 ~ Pretend you are either an Aztec royalty, commoner, slave, artisan or warrior. Create a codex  book describing an average day in your life. ~Remember that a codex is a series of pictographs which tell a story without words. A codex is folded in an accordion shape that contains panels for each event you are illustrating.

Attention Super Explorers: Create a codex for a full week as a the Aztec citizen you choose.


Task 5 ~ After viewing the website on Mayan gods, illustrate a god or goddess of your choosing on white art paper with a brief paragraph explaining who the god or goddess was and what part they played in the Mayan belief system.

Attention Super Explorer: Create your own god or goddess. Illustrate it on white art paper and explain in a brief paragraph what he or she would represent in the Mayan religion.
