Old Business

            Mini Grants

Kelly Behringer will chair the Mini Grant Program. She will be in contact with the teachers soon for their requests for this school year.

            Playground

New rubber chips were added to the lower wing playground as additional padding to the existing layers. The current wooden edging was heightened to keep the chips in the playground and to provide a safer barrier. Thanks to Phil Brown of Brown Construction for his work.

Sand was added to the tetherball areas to allow the children to use the tetherball poles for the first time is a few years. Thanks to the many volunteers who shoveled rubber chips and sand on a very hot August Saturday morning.

            Kindergarten Loft

A banister was installed around the top of the loft in Mrs. Marsden’s room enabling the children to use the loft during free playtime.  Thanks to Joe Archangelo of  Archangelo Home Improvements for his work.

            Box Tops for Education

Kelly Behringer will chair this project again this year. We exceeded last year’s goal by over $400.00. This year’s goal is once again $1000.00. Our time frame window for returning box tops to the company has shortened slightly this year resulting in the decision to use the same goal as last year. Did you know that if you shop at different vendors through the Box Tops website the school gets a monetary amount? Check out the details at BoxTops4education.com.

New Business

            Katherine Beich Fall Fundraiser

The kick-off went well on Thursday, September 15th. The children and teachers seem excited with the new company. Chairs; Becky Pilsbury and Karen Lemieux are pleased with the support they have received from the Katherine Beich Company.

PTO Minutes Distribution

Ideas were presented on how the minutes of the PTO meetings be shared. We will continue to send via email to registered PTO teachers and parents, as well as leave hard copies at Extended Day and the Front Office. An article will be placed in the Briggs-At-Large for parents to contact a member of the PTO Board if they would like to receive a hard copy through their child.

            BJ’s “Adopt a School” Kick-Off

The kick-off event is ready to go. BJ’s will have several stations set up for the children and parents to stop at including an Oreo stacking race, PTO Thank You cards to decorate, Ice Cream Sundaes and guessing/estimation games. There are approximately 9 teachers helping with the stations and Andrea McGrath will be present to cut the cake at 6:30pm.

Photography for PTO sponsored events

Gail Dumont will work with the Community Times Journal to have a reporter/photographer at upcoming PTO events. We need to be work with the office and be aware of the photo release procedures before any child’s picture is taken for publication.

            Open House

The PTO will have a table display at the J.R. Brigg’s Open House scheduled for Wednesday, September 21st from 5:00-7:00pm. We are asking for volunteers to man the table in ½ hour shifts. We will have cookbook order forms, PTO parent/teacher registration forms, BJ’s “Adopt a School” information and flyers of upcoming events at the table.

Shop til you Drop Night

The evening’s activities are underway for Friday, October 21st from 7:00-11:00pm at the American Legion. We have approximately 28 vendors ready for the evening. There will be a $3.00 entry fee and a 50/50 raffle every hour. The bar will be open for beverage purchases. We are still looking for the following vendors.             School Address Books

A proposed project to supply parents with a classroom list of J.R. Briggs student’s names, class, addresses, phone numbers and parent email addresses. Parents will have the option of whether to or not to submit their child’s information and just how much information they want to submit. We will discuss and review this project at the next meeting.

Hannaford’s Supermarket Coupons

At the end of every Hannaford’s grocery receipt is a coupon for “money” to be donated to the school of your choice by Hannaford. It usually appears at the very end of the coupon slip. Bring them in to school and place in the Hannaford’s box on glass case just outside the main office.

Meeting Closure

Co-Vice President Kelly Behringer closed the meeting at 8:00pm. Thanks to all the parents and teachers who came to the meeting. We look forward to seeing your return to future meetings and the upcoming PTO events and invite parents who missed the meeting to attend the next PTO meeting on Thursday, October 20th.  If you wish to be removed from minutes email distribution please let me know.
