Meeting Commencement

           

           Co-President Ann Horgan opened the meeting at 6:17pm with 13 parents and JR Briggs staff present. Meeting start time was delayed due to an accident at the intersection of Corey Hill Road and Route 12.

 

Secretary’s Report

 

Brenda Brown presented the Secretary’s report. Motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the secretary’s report as presented.

 

Treasurer’s Report

Kim Gauvin presented the Treasurer’s report. A copy of the latest bank statement was included in the report. Motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the treasurer’s report as presented. Kim requested the PTO purchase the “PTO Finance Manager” software, offered by PTO Today. The software program enables PTO groups to enter data, access accounts and provide the PTO’s detailed financial information in an easy to use and read format. On-line access is limited to current PTO Board members. A motion was made, seconded and approved to purchase the “PTO Finance Manager” software for $119.00.  PTO Finance Manager copies of our current PTO financial information are available in the case across from the office.

 

Old Business

 

Yankee Candle

            Fran Cournoyer presented a Yankee Candle Spring Fundraising Program with samples of popular fragrance candles. A motion was made, seconded and approved to hold a Yankee Candle Spring Fundraiser beginning on March 17th and ending on March 31st. Fran will hold a Kick-Off assembly on Friday, March 17th for the children. There will be a gift basket, available to the teacher with the highest class participation, on display in the front lobby at the Kick-Off and during teacher conferences. Prizes will be awarded to the top sellers of the upper and lower wing classes.

 

Wizards Basketball Game

            The Wizards (basketball) game against Ashburnham and Westminster teachers, players and volunteers is scheduled for Sunday, January 22nd at Oakmont High School at 2:00pm. The Muggles team players are ready and we have a collection of players from Overlook, Oakmont, JR Brigg and the Westminster Schools. There are currently ads being played on Channel 8. The Wizard’s players will do a walkthrough for the children on January 19th at approximately 11:30am.

Volunteers are STILL Needed for several stations that day. If you are interested and can help at any of the following stations, please contact Gay Houghton at: 827-1248 or kootzleska@yahoo.com; Concession Stand, Ticket takers, Set-Up and Takedown and Clean-Up.

 

Father/Daughter Dance

            The Father/Daughter Dance is scheduled for Friday, February 3rd, 2006 with a snow date of February 10th. Flyers for ordering corsages and flowers will be going home with the girls soon. Permission was asked of the school for the PTO to make the corsage/flower flyers. This, at one, time, had been done by the Garden Shed. A motion was made, seconded and approved to make the corsage/flower flyers here at JR Briggs. Future flyers will be prepared by The Garden Shed.

Permission was asked of the school for the PTO to make the event tickets. This, at one, time, had been done by a private volunteer. A motion was made, seconded and approved to make the event tickets here at JR Briggs.

Genevieve’s has presented an option to sell chocolate flowers at the dance. A motion was made, seconded and approved to make the chocolate flowers available during the dance. 

 

Mini Grants

            The mini grant applications have been given to the teachers and staff with a return date of February 1st, 2006. Once the requests have been returned a committee will evaluate the requests. There is still room for a few more people on the committee. If interested please contact Kelly Behringer through our mailbox at school, at 827-6009 or RFBEHRINGERCPA@comcast.net. Once the requests have been reviewed, the committee will make recommendations to the members of the PTO. The PTO will review and discuss the recommendations and the teachers will be notified of their mini grant allotments. The PTO is allotting approximately $5,000.00 for the mini grant program. If, at the end of the school year, our spring fundraisers are successful consideration will be given to offering an additional mini grant to the teachers.

 

Yearbook

            A photographer from our current Yearbook Company; O’Connor Photography will be at the school, taking candid shots throughout the day on January 17th.  We are hoping to have an update on this year’s Yearbook project at the next meeting.

 

Address Books

There are still a few address books left. If anyone is interested you may contact Kelly Behringer through our PTO mailbox at school, at 827-6009 or at RFBEHRINGERCPA@comcast.net.

 

BoxTops for Education

            The current total for “Boxtops for Education” received is: $616.97.

 

Hannaford’s Register Receipts

            The current total for “Hannaford’s Register Receipts” received is: $144.00.

 

New Business

 

Fall Fundraiser

           Katherine Beich is interested in presenting their program for us to use in the fall of 2006.

Genevieve’s will be presenting their program for us to use in the fall of 2006 at the February PTO meeting at 6:30. If there are any other programs that you would like the PTO to review please let us know by dropping a note in our mailbox at school or sending an email to beckymp411@yahoo.com

 

Read Across America

            Ann Horgan will chair the Read Across America program this year beginning on March 3rd. The theme will be the Solar System. Ann has requested a budget of approximately $200.00 to purchase new awards, bookmarks and prizes for the program. A motion was made, seconded and approved to allot approximately $200.00 for supplies for the Read Across America program. BJ’s will be supplying a large cake for the Read Across America Kick-Off on March 3rd, 2006.

 

PTO Closet

            The PTO Closet experiences leaks every time there is a heavy rain. Many of the PTO supplies are becoming damaged with each rain. A motion was made, seconded and approved to purchase 10-20 medium (78 qt) plastic totes and 2 large (100qt) plastic totes for the PTO supplies. Ann Horgan and Gail Dumont have volunteered to clean out the closet and organize the supplies in the totes the week of January 16th. THANK YOU Ann and Gail!

 

PTO Paper

            A motion was made, seconded and approved to purchase 3 cases of purple paper for future PTO event flyers.

 

Family Skate at Cushing Academy

            Plans are underway to schedule a Family Skate Day at Cushing Academy. Information will be provided as it is received.

 

RISE

            Kevin Ahearn has requested a sum of up to $50.00 to purchase a thank-you gift for the woman providing administrative work and support for the past two years of the RISE program. A motion was made, seconded and approved to allot Kevin Ahearn the sum of up to $50.00 to purchase a thank you gift.

 

Meeting Closure

            Co-President Ann Horgan closed the meeting at 8:16pm. Thanks to everyone who came to the meeting. We look forward to seeing your return to future meetings and the upcoming PTO events and invite parents, teachers and staff who missed the meeting to attend the next PTO meeting on Thursday, February 9th, 2006 at 6:30pm.  If you wish to be removed from the minutes email distribution please let me know.
