Friends
of Briggs PTO
Meeting
Minutes for April 14, 2005
Meeting called to order at
6:35 PM.
Attendance
sheet is attached.
Secretary Report
–Minutes
reviewed and accepted.
Treasury Report
– Current
numbers leave us with approximately $7000.00 to start next
year. Guidance was not able to submit a mini-grant request
by the deadline but has requested $100.00 from the PTO.
There was a vote and it passed unanimously to give $100 to
Guidance.
Old Business
Bunny Breakfast
-
We made approximately $626.00 at the breakfast. We sold 465
chocolate bunnies and made approximately $800-$1000. There
were some problems with the film when taking the bunny
pictures. Everything else went well, there was just enough
help. We need to find another way to do coffee. One
suggestion was to try Dunkin Donuts if we can get a discount
and it is a cost effective.
Mother/Son Dance
–
We did have one major hurtle with dance. The caller that was
scheduled got sick the day of the dance and went to the
hospital. Renee was lucky enough to find that overlook had a
dance that afternoon and the DJ was still at the school. She
was able to convince the DJ to come and do our dance that
night. He was a little more expensive but it turned out that
he did a really great job and we would like to use him again
in the future. We made $31.91 on the event. Next year we
would like to try a regular dance again. We would like to
try and get some fathers to chaperon to keep the boys in
line. The light-up sticks were good but the gift probably
isn’t necessary. Gail Dumont has volunteered to organize the
event next year.
Mini Grants
–
All mini-grants were funded approximately $7700.00. The PTO
is funding $5000.00 and the Enrichment fund is funding
$2700.00. The PTO also voted and approved a late request of
$100 to Guidance. Martha has all the individual mini-grant
requests if anyone would like to review them.
PTO Board and School Council Nominations
–
Michelle Gianino, Carolyn Uminski
and Olof Johnson are the three new parent members appointed
to the School Council.
Staff Appreciation Day
–
Will be on May 25th . We will be requesting small
breakfast items such as fruit salad, yogurt, small beagles,
flavored cream cheese, mini muffins, juice, coffee and
flavored creamers. Sarah Wright will do lunch and deserts.
There are approximately 70 staff members to serve.
Box Tops
– We have collected $1371.10 for the year. Great Job!!! We
are still collecting box tops through June which we will
hold for next year. We would like to give out freeze pops to
the entire school as a thank you. Katie Cook suggested we do
that during the filed days. June 7th and 8th
(rain date 9th and 10th ). Each class
will also get a year end certificate for their total
collections.
Family Skate
- There was a lower turn out but it was a fun time. Ice cost
is approximately $300.
New Business
Kindergarten Registration -
for Kindergarten registration we would like to distinguish
between fundraisers for different school funds and
fundraisers that go directly to PTO.
Fine Arts Night
- May 25th at 6pm
. We will have a table to sell cook books and old year
books.
Community Breakfast
– The PTO has been strongly encouraged to offer an in school
breakfast for local businesses. Due to the time frame for
the first breakfast we are looking at asking the Business
council to hold the monthly meeting at JRB where we can
offer a nice continental breakfast or snacks for them rather
then having speakers come in.
BJ’s Adoption
- We are looking into what would be expected of us if BJ’s
is willing to adopt our school and help support some events.
Down Town Days
– Dr. Zipantis would also like us to do a table at the
Ashburnham Down Town Days to promote community involvement
with the schools. We will discuss this more at the next
meeting.
