Meeting Minutes for February 17, 2005

No secretary’s report given.

No treasurer’s report given as Martha was late.

O BJ’s program

We rec’d $230.00 from the program. People who signed up or renewed have already rec’d their temporary cards.

O Bunny Breakfast

New flyers have been ordered. Kristin ordered bunnies, plastic eggs and tattoos. Total came to $89.00 (much less than last year) $65.00 in Wal-Mart gift cards will be used for candy and film for the camera. Ann Horgan has agreed to be the “bunny”. There will be a sign-up for kitchen help in the teacher’s room about a week before the event. Food has been ordered, posters have been ordered. Kristin still not sure on the status of flowers with Mrs. McGrath or on the status of backdrop for Bunny pictures. Overlook special needs department usually handles. The order forms for the Chocolate Bunnies will be delivered to the kids for March 1st with a due back date of March 14th. For every 20 bunnies a child sells he/she gets a raffle ticket for prize drawings.

O Father/Daughter Dance

It was a success. A few minor bumps; flowers were a tad late, causing a slight delay for pictures for some couples. The no rules procedure for pictures seemed to work well. There was a line every so often but as has been in the past.

A few suggestions for next year; have people assigned to tasks before the event and all parties privy to the assignments to save on too many or too few volunteers throughout the evening. Have some instructional or structured dances so that the girls actually dance with their Dads during the evening.

O Mother/Son Dance

Tammy (sp) was not present to give update. Kristin had ordered bandanas and badges for the event. We, as a group, decided to return them and get some kind of “ball” for the boys based on discussions with different aged boys and their consensus that bandanas would not be a “good” idea.

O Ice Cats Game

            We’ve rec’d $1600. in sales thus far.

O Family Skate

The new date for the family skate at Cushing is Sunday, April 3rd. No more details available.

O Resource Officer

Renee gave some background information on the current situation of both the Westminster and Ashburnham Resource Officers. There is a petition going around to have presented to the Board of Selectmen to approval to present at the town meeting to put on the ballot to hire another Police Officer for the town of Ashburnham thus freeing up Kevin Ahearn to be our Resource Officer.

**Summer** the above topic was a very confusing conversation, with people talking all at once and information coming from all directions… I only hope I got it right!!

O Mini Grants

There have been a few requests received so far. Requests are due by the end of February. It was agreed that if the total requests come in are under $5000.00 the PTO will meet to make recommendations and final decisions.

O Read Across America

This year’s theme is: “Shoot for the Moon”. Ann Horgan has purchased inflatable balls and solar system to decorate the lobby. She will repeat the “read across America” miles tally as has been done in the past. Ann is looking for help in tallying each morning; Monday (3/7) thru Friday (3/11) for about 1 hour in the teacher’s lounge.  All present voted to give Ann Horgan a $100.00 cap for supplies and prizes for this year’s event.

O Community In School Breakfast

After much discussion it was voted that we would not be participating in this program. The PTO would like to investigate the current program and perhaps come up with something similar but with better turnout for next year.

O PTO paper color change

It was unanimously decided to change the color of PTO paper. The purple is too expensive. Martha will be a “cheaper” color for future printings.

O Fall Fundraiser

Renee presented the results from the parent survey on the fall fundraiser companies; Katherine Beich (sp) and Genivieve’s (sp). The parent survey came in at KB = 30 and G = 2. We opened the floor to discussion and one parent gave a plea to keep the “local” company. Renee presented the differences in the incentive packages for both companies and we took a vote. It was 1 for G and all the rest for KB. We are going with KB for the fall fundraiser. The surveys also found that parents liked the T-shirts as well.

I left at 7:55pm so not sure if anything else went on after that!
