Friends of Briggs PTO

Meeting Minutes for January 13, 2005

O Secretary’s report was reviewed and accepted with the correction to Tshits.

O Treasurer’s report was reviewed and accepted. Question was raised as to how we were doing financially as compared to this time last year. Martha stated that we were in good shape even though we were at a little less than where we were last year.

O Harlem Wizards Event was reviewed. Both Ashburnham and Westminster are looking at receiving approximately $1200.00 from the event. There has been nothing but positive feedback about the event. The PTO feels that this would definitely be an event to repeat next year.

O Yearbook

A few parents have spoken to members of the PTO about having to purchase the yearbooks this year for the 5th grade students. Return comments have been and should continue to be that we explain the other events/items that the PTO has funded for the school/5th grade that parent’s do not have to fund. It has been mentioned that we have purchased the RISE t-shirts. Another notice will go out for the last chance to order yearbooks. The PTO will follow-up with phone calls for any 5th grade family that doesn’t respond to be sure they get the chance to order.

O RISE

We are all set for the graduation program next week.

O Teacher’s Holiday Gifts

We received approximately $1020.00 so far and more envelopes continue to come in. The PTO will ask the teacher’s to report back as to if they liked this idea and what they plan or spent the gift on.

O Valentine Dance

PTO decided to omit the archway and cut the number of balloons ordered from 200 to 100. Tammy is getting the supplies for the dance. The photographer is all set. It was decided to not use a procedure for picture taking. We will inform the couples as they arrive to either wait in line now or they can check back throughout the evening to get their pictures done. Brenda Brown will notify the Community Journal for this event and the Mother/Son event to come and take pictures.

O Ice Cats

The date is March 12th , 2005. We’ll send out the flyers around Feb 4th , and have the money due the Friday before Feb vacation. We are scheduling the event with Overlook and Westminster Elementary.

O Bunny Breakfast

Scheduled for Saturday, April 19th , 2005. Renee has put in a donation request to Wal-Mart for bunnies and to BJ’s for breakfast food. Jean has decreased the amount of food ordered from last year. The Ashburnham Girl Scouts will be helping out at the stations again (tattooing, coloring, etc.) The poster layout will not be changed to add the selling of bunnies due to the cost increase. We will publicize the information through Briggs-at-Large and small posters throughout the schools. Andrea McGrath is going to get the centerpieces through the Second Grade Easter Plant Sale. She will work with the PTO to have them there for the breakfast. Price addition will be added for a Senior discount. They can get into the breakfast for $3.00.

O Family Skate

Was originally planned for Sunday afternoon, March 27th . (This is Easter). Jean will go back to get another date, for sometime in April.

O Kellie Robichaud asked the PTO to sponsor a mini-grant for the 5th grade solar enrichment. She will type up the request and work with Andrea McGrath and the PTO within the next few weeks.

O Genevieve’s (sp)

Phil Gahan presented the Genevieve’s product for our consideration for the Fall Fundraiser. He requested we keep Genevieve’s based on it being a local company and that he was from “town”. He stated that each company offers different packaging and incentives but it’s still candy, candles, gifts and wrapping paper…. He is willing to work with the PTO to come up with new, exciting incentives and rewards for the kids as well.

Renee requested a copy of the fall catalog by the Feb PTO meeting when we will be making a decision on which Fall Fundraising Company to go with. Phil brought lots of goodies for the PTO to sample and take home.

Meeting was concluded at approximately 8:30pm.
