Z is for Zodiacal Light
The sky seems to glow when you’re watching the Zodiacal light. Usually you would think that this means the sun is reflecting off the clouds. If the glow of light is running across the whole sky you are probably seeing the light from the billions of stars in the Milky Way. Zodiacal light is just sunlight reflected by the tiny dust particles orbiting in our solar system. Many of these particles came off comets. Zodiacal light is easiest to see in September or October just before sunrise from a very dark location.
