First Grade News…
Now that our first-graders are reading with fluency, we have been working on using higher-level comprehension strategies. We want students to recognize that it’s not just about “getting our mouth ready, but also about getting your mind ready.” (Nancy Boyles) Some things to encourage your child’s use of comprehension strategies at home would be to ask: · What does this story remind you of? · Why do you think that happened? · What do you think will happen next? Why? · What was your favorite part of the story? Why? Helping your child think as they read will keep them engaged, increase their understanding, and foster their love of reading.

Service Auction Colonial B & B March 30, 2007
A number of items are on display in the school lobby, but to see them all, please attend the auction. If you are unable to attend, a Proxy Bid Form was sent home last week. You may complete the form and send it back to school. One of our Proxy Bidders will be happy to represent you during the auction. Please note…completing this form does obligate you to the purchase of an item, if you are the winning bidder (even if you are not there). Chinese Auction raffle tickets as well as the “Special Staff Raffle” tickets will be accepted until the evening of March 30th. We are overwhelming pleased with the positive response we have received regarding this fundraising event. The community, staff and parents have donated an amazing number of items and services for “our first ever auction”. The students are very excited about many of the services and raffles. We are hoping for a GREAT night.
