Day– NO SCHOOL 11 Veteran’s Day – NO SCHOOL News from 5th Grade
The fifth graders have been very impressive as they move back and forth from classroom to classroom. Each student is keeping organized while using a five-subject notebook. Journaling, note-taking, creating glossaries, using the R.I.D.G.E.S. word problem strategy, and participating in science labs are just a few strategies the students are utilizing. Thursday, October 13th was “Cell”ebration day in Grade 5. The students ate green jell-o, grapes and banana slices to simulate the parts of a plant cell. Later classes teamed up to create cell designs using a variety of multi-media materials. Ask your child about onion cell preparation and viewing. Thank you for your continued support in keeping track of your child’s homework schedule. Homework is reviewed each day and used as a link to each lesson. The schedule is consistent and altered slightly only if there is a shortened week, field trip, or assembly. Have a fantastically, fabulous fall! Be Good to Your Back…Learn How to Pack!
Recently, a representative – Sarah Wright, DPT - from Ramsey Rehab visited all of our 5th Grade classrooms to discuss backpack safety. This backpack clinic encourages our students to “Be Good to Your Back”. As part of the celebration of National Physical Therapy Month, physical therapists are educating students, parents and teachers to be aware of health problems students may have from backpacks that are too heavy or worn improperly. Some tips for all of us to consider:
5th Grade Students will be rewarded for their effort in improving their health with a personalized certificate and t-shirt by tracking their backpack weight for a two-week period, along with how it is packed, how their back felt, and if they did back stretches. OCTOBER STUDENT COUNCIL
