By donating loose change and coins you will be assisting our local animal shelter. It is in desperate need of dry dog food for their “boarders”. Each class will have a coin jar…student council members will collect the donations and mark our progress. We are “plotting” our support of this project with Mr. Foster’s math classes. Graphs and charts will be posted in our main hallway charting each class/grades progress. Please consider donating …a few “cents” can make a difference! Summer Is Around The Corner!!
The John R. Briggs School will be running a Summer Academy program for eligible students currently in first, second, third and fourth grade. A student’s eligibility is determined by previous MCAS scores and teacher recommendation. If your child is recommended for this program you will receive an enrollment letter by the end of April. The main focus of this program is to support and review the grade level Language Arts and Math skills that were addressed throughout the year. Another component of this program is to prepare your child to take the MCAS exam. The Briggs Summer Academy will run from June 27th-July 20th on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. During the week of July 3rd, the students will attend Summer Academy on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, July 5th-7th so families can enjoy a long Fourth of July weekend. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to benefit from additional academic support in a small classroom setting so please consider enrolling your child if you received an informational packet about the Briggs Summer Academy. Kindergarten Orientation
We will hold Kindergarten Orientation on May 1st from 9-10:30 a.m. There will be no Kindergarten classes for current Kindergarten students on that day.

Help your child keep track of things…….. Elementary schoolers are still developing their ability to store information. So they forget a lot. Instead of taking over their duties, try these ideas: Write down tasks. List and post your child’s responsibilities, chores and school assignments. Notice success. Tell your child that you admire his efforts! Establish routines. This will help your child remember what to do and when to do it. Avoid saving the day. If forgetting is unpleasant, it may happen less often. Organize belongings. Have your child put key items in the same place every day. Show confidence. Send the message, “I know you can do this. I believe in you.” Briggs Web Page You can find the Briggs At Large newsletter, PTO meeting minutes, and other important school announcements at the school's web site.
