By donating loose change and coins you will be assisting our local animal shelter. It is in desperate need of dry dog food for their “boarders”. Each class will have a coin jar…student council members will collect the donations and mark our progress. We are “plotting” our support of this project with Mr. Foster’s math classes. Graphs and charts will be posted in our main hallway charting each class/grades progress. Please consider donating …a few “cents” can make a difference! NEWS from the Specialists Specialists teachers strive to create interdisciplinary units that integrate the core curriculum (math, language arts, social studies and science) with our subject areas (art, music, technology, library media and physical education). Here are a few examples. The fourth grade students recently completed Eric Carle folding books. During language arts time in the classroom, students wrote poems on a variety of topics. The students typed their poems in the computer lab, practicing their keyboarding skills. In art class, students used paper collage to illustrate their poems and combined their text and artwork to make the actual books. The first grade students are just starting a unit on the life cycle of the pumpkin that will culminate with a performance in June. This unit targets science and language arts skills. Students began this unit by coming to the computer lab to complete a sequencing activity on when (what season) each stage in the life of the pumpkin plant occurs. To get ready for the play in June, students will learn songs in music class, make headdresses and other props in art class, and explore related movements in physical education and health classes. For the third year, fifth grade students will be completing a unit on space and earth science that integrates several curriculum areas. Students will learn about space and astronomy in science class, research a student-selected topic in the library, compose music related to that topic in music class, and create a PowerPoint slideshow in the computer lab. For the Briggs specialists, integration is where it’s at! Kindergarten Orientation
We will hold Kindergarten Orientation on May 1st from 9-10:30 a.m. There will be no Kindergarten classes for current Kindergarten students on that day.

Quote of the month…
“You must learn from the mistakes of others. You can’t possibly live long enough to make them all yourself.” Communication with Parents
Better Performance: When parents and schools work as partners, students earn higher grades and test scores, and they stay in school longer.
Everyone Benefits: When parents are involved in the school, the performance of all children in the school tends to improve. Last updated 4/13/06 by Tiffany Davis. |
