This month the February Student Council will be selling estimate tickets for a chance to win a huge delicious jar of treats for the winning estimator’s class. The money we raise will go towards the Connor Family whose house was recently lost in a fire. The estimate tickets will be priced at 25 cents per ticket. There will be two jars, one for the lower grades and one for the upper grades. The tickets will be drawn at the end of February. It would be very thoughtful if you participated in this event. The Connor family needs our help. Thank you for helping with our February Student Council project. NEWS FROM SECOND GRADE… Easter Flowers
The second grade team realizes it is difficult to think of flowers and Easter when there is still snow on the ground. However, we are sponsoring our annual fundraiser to help defray the cost of our field trip to The Magical Wings Butterfly Conservatory in South Deerfield. The types of flowers being sold are Hyacinths, Asiatic Lilies, Easter Lilies, and Tulips. The order forms will be attached to the Briggs at Large after the vacation. We will be collecting orders during the month of March. Please consider placing an order to support the second grade students. The Importance of Social Competencies Growing up is a lot like learning to play the piano. You need to learn some basic skills, and you need someone to teach you those skills. You need time to practice, guidance as you gain experience, and feedback along the way. The best way to teach children basic skills is by following these four steps: · Demonstrate the skill and let your child watch · Do the skill together with your child · Let your child do the skill alone while you watch · Give feedback along the way Social competencies are the skills and life perspectives children need to develop into healthy, competent adults. These skills come in handy on a daily basis, but they’re even more crucial when your child is navigating through the maze of life. · Let your child do things by herself or himself, even if it’s not the way you’d do it. · Allow your child to make mistakes and learn from those mistakes.
