Dismissal From School

Just a reminder…our school policy requests ALL parents notify our school if their child is being dismissed to an adult rather than attending Ext. Day or taking a school bus home.

On the day of dismissal, the parent/guardian is asked to send a note (or telephone call, 978-827-5750) to the school office indicating the time of the dismissal and who will pick up the child.

The authorized adult must report to the school office upon arrival to sign out and dismiss the child.

Don’t forget...we have communication pads of dismissal notes available in our school office.

STUDENT COUNCIL

This month our January Student Council has taken on a new, exciting project.  We have created a wall-size United States of America map for our main hallway.  The excitement of all of our students has been building as the US is “coming together”.

We are looking for wall paint to complete our masterpiece.  If you have small amounts of colorful latex paint or small paintbrushes (1/2” – 1”) that you no longer have a use for, please consider donating them to our project.                                THANK YOU

Congratulations…Spelling Bees

    1st Place – Chris S.

    2nd Place – Sadie Z.

    3rd Place – Jessica D.

First Grade Reading Express

The train needs more fuel to reach its destination!  Please read aloud with your child every night.  Be sure to sign your sheets and pass them in every Monday.  If you miss a reading day during the week, you always have the weekend to make it up.  Reading the same book is acceptable.  Don’t forget our pizza party in March as our “halfway” celebration!

5th Grade News…

Magnificent Desolation was the movie seen by the 5th graders on Tuesday, January 10th, at the IMAX theatre in Natick, MA. This was a great introduction, for the upcoming space unit, which 5th graders will be working on in their science classes with Mrs. Bennett and Mr. Foster. This unit will help prepare the 5th graders for their upcoming Science and Technology MCAS testing to take place this spring. The unit will also include a visit from the Boston Museum of Science Skylab, which is a mobile planetarium. Logging the phases of the moon and researching planets will also be a part of learning more about our solar system.

                                    More science

Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Robichaud will be entering twenty-five students in the Massachusetts Science Poetry Contest sponsored by Boston College. All poems must be science-based, and non-fiction. All poetic forms are accepted and space is an appropriate topic for this writing venue. Poetry will be written in the classroom and judged by Mrs. Melanson and the 5th grade team. Be sure to ask your child for a rundown of their trip to the IMAX theatre.

Wanted…Fabric scraps are needed for puppet making for Grade 3 Art Classes.  If anyone has material they no longer need, please drop if off at the office.  Thanks, Mrs. Richard (Art Teacher)

We are looking for you…

                   Volunteer Coordinator

The JRB School Council is looking for a willing volunteer to survey the needs of our staff and the skills and talents of our parent community to develop a partnership between the two groups.  This person would also coordinate these volunteer efforts.  Please contact Mrs. Wright or Mrs. McGrath if you are interested, or would like more details.

After-School Enrichment Activities…

The response has been overwhelming.  We are working to satisfy our student population.  Please be understanding if your child has not been selected for the first round of After School Enrichment offerings, selections for courses with greater responses will be done by lottery.

We hope to offer a second round of programs in the spring.  If you have a skill or suggestion, please contact Mrs. Savoie, After School Enrichment Coordinator in writing.

John R. Briggs Communication Survey

In our efforts to increase effective communication between home and school, the JRB School Improvement Council has developed a parent survey that was sent home last week.  We are anxious to know if we are meeting your needs.  Please complete the survey and return it to school by January 13th, so we can assess how we can develop an effective partnership.  Please add any additional comments that may help us meet your personal needs.
