Often we are so consumed with the excitement of the season that we forget to practice respect for ourselves as well as others. Words – Let your child know that using respectful language will often cause other people to respond positively back to them. Action – Explain that if your youngster treats others with respect, chances are they’ll act the same way toward him/her. Thoughts – Encourage your child to think respectful thoughts. They can help to feel better about oneself. Our 5th Grade Student Council has set the bar high in this category. By demonstrating respect for others, these 5th grade students can hold their heads high – they have been excellent role models for all other J. R. Briggs students. Parent-Teacher Teams Thank you for taking advantage of our fall Parent-Teacher conference opportunity. Children are more successful in school when parents and teachers work together. Be sure to: · Be in touch with your child’s teacher · Support the teacher’s policies · Talk with your child about what he/she has learned JRB on the Web Did you know that Briggs Elementary School has a web page? Fire up your browser and go to www.awrsd.org/jrb to find electronic copies of the Briggs at Large newsletter; Friend of Briggs PTO newsletters, minutes and agendas; age-appropriate, educational (and fun!) web sites for your children; news articles written by Briggs students; and more. Have suggestions for other information you would like to see on the web page? Email Mrs. Davis at tdavis@awrsd.org! School SafetyFor safety reasons, the main entrance will be locked at 3:45 p.m. We have a number of after-school activities occurring in our school. For your child’s safety, we are asking ALL after-school visitors to sign-in and enter through the Extended Day Entrance. FROM THE LIBRARY… We will be having a Fall Scholastic Book Fair in the Briggs Library from Tuesday, Nov.30 through Monday, Dec. 6th. The Book Fair will be open during the evenings of parent-teacher conferences (Dec. 1 & 2). We hope that many parents will be able to stop by before and after conferences. Proceeds from the Book Fair allow new resources to be added to the library As in the past, students will be given an opportunity to visit the Book Fair with their teacher. Also, a teacher “wish list” will be posted. This gives parents an opportunity to make a donation to their child’s classroom library. As always, parent volunteers are needed to work at the Book Fair. If you can help out, please call Lynne Pinsoneault in the library. Hope to see you there! Artifacts… Congratulations to 5th grader, Kaylee who created the winning design for this year’s school yearbook. Great Job, Kaylee! The following students made designs that were chosen as runners up; their work will appear on the first page of the yearbook. Mike, Stephen, Kayla, and Matthew. These five excellent cover designs can be seen on display on the wall outside of the art room. Thanks to all fifth grade students who took the time to create designs this year!
