Tips from Ms. Davis & Mrs. Pinsoneault

As you know, every Briggs student signs a Computer Acceptable Use Policy at the beginning of each school year. One of the promises that your child makes in signing the policy is to follow copyright law. We believe that the best way for children to learn to “do the right thing” is for school staff and parents to model legal and ethical use. Here are some pointers to help you.

q    When you purchase a CD, DVD or video for your personal use, you are not allowed to reproduce that material for others, or share it with others for them to reproduce.

q    Even though your home computer may include a CD burner or DVD burner, it is for burning or making copies of material that you have produced. In other words, it is for backing up files on your computer, or sharing pictures that you have taken. It is not legal to use your burner to make copies of commercially produced materials, except …

q    You are allowed to make ONE backup copy of a CD, DVD or video you purchased (produced by someone else). That backup copy cannot be loaned to others, or used by you unless the original copy is no longer usable.

Thanks for your help in showing our students the right way to use copyrighted material!

Flu Facts: What To Do If You Have the Flu

  • Rest in bed.

  • Drink lots of fluids.

  • Take non-aspirin pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Children and teens with the flue should never take aspirin as they may develop a rare, but serious disease called Reye Syndrome.

  • Stay at home and avoid public activities until your symptoms are resolved (usually 5-7 days).

  • Talk with your health care provider if you are considering prescription drugs, as they can have serious side effects in some people.

  • For extreme cases, visit your health care provider or emergency department as soon as possible.
