It sure hasn’t seemed very spring-like lately. Regardless, “HAPPY SPRING” to all! There are a lot of important events comings up over the next few weeks for the third graders. We have been working with the E.I. C. Program doing tree identification and then we will be working on the vernal pool next month. MCAS Prep has begun for the students with practice sent home as homework and test taking skills being worked on in class. MCAS Reading Test dates are March 29th – 31st!. Next month we will send home practice Math activities in preparation for the MCAS “Question Try-Out” in May. Please keep working on the multiplication tables at home until your child has learned them completely. This is an important third grade skill and should be completed this year. Another exciting program we will have this year is “Legend”. This is a program for learning history through the arts. It will include dance, music, art, and creative writing. The program’s activities will center on the Revolutionary War and will tie in local history. There will be more information coming as soon as it becomes available. Notes from Band Exciting news!!! In addition to our March 23rd solo and ensemble Band Concert, there will be a Band Night Concert held at ORHS on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 featuring all the bands in the District. Parents will need to pick up their children at 4:15 p.m. at Oakmont and plan to return to Oakmont at 6:45 p.m. (meet in the cafeteria) for the concert. Many of you may have heard the sad story of “Muma”, the Siberian Husky that Mrs. and Officer Ahearn adopted. Muma had to be adopted because her owner, Dave Cote, recently passed away from cancer. Many of Mr. Cote’s friends wanted to do something nice for him, so they adopted his four dogs. We know Officer Ahearn as a protector and someone who is very kind and by adopting Muma is just one more example of his kind heart. So we want to do something nice for him. Four days after Muma moved in with the Ahearn Family, she was hit by a big snowplow during a snowstorm. Muma needed a lot of surgery and now the veterinarian bill is almost $3000. We want to help pay for Muma’s recovery. We are planning on making “Kid Friendly” edible Puppy Chow to sell at our school ($1.00 per bag). We will be taking orders for this tasty treat during the week of March 21st. More information will be coming soon, but please consider helping our cause. A donation jar is also in the School Office, if you wish to make a donation for Muma. Last updated 03/17/05 by Tiffany Davis. |
