The scientists in 5R, 5H, and 5T hosted a Structures Museum
in June. The children displayed and explained
castle sketches, home renderings, cityscape pop-ups, index card
bridges, straw structures, and recyclable structures, and spoke
to their visitors about compression, tension, symmetry, and
geometric figures. |
| Teacher Katie Bennett visited the Smithsonian
Ecological Research Center in Maryland, near the
Chesapeake Bay (see picture at right), just before the
December break. She participated in a study called,
"Climate Change and Fragmented Forests." Students in 4G
and 4B
blogged
with Mrs. Bennett while she was away. |

In December, art teacher Peg Richard organized a
gingerbread
structure exhibit to raise money for the Rachel Lee
Memorial Fund. Rachel, a former Briggs student, lost her battle
against cancer in August 2008.
