Friends of Briggs/PTA Meeting

Tammy Johnson opened the meeting at 6:35 pm with 8 members in attendance.
 

Treasurer's Report
Treasurer's report was presented.  Motion was made to accept the Treasurer's report.
 

Secretary's Report
The Secretary's report was presented.  Motion was made to accept the Secretary's report.
 

Annual Reports
Annual Secretary and Treasurer's reports were presented.

OLD BUSINESS

        Yearbook
                        We have produced a full color, 56 page yearbook
this year.  We received 4 more orders giving us a total of 212 orders.
We ordered 218 books.  The books are arriving on June 11th.  We paid G&B
$3,313.30 by 4/15 and avoided shipping and handling charges.   

        Staff Appreciation
                        Staff Appreciation Day will be held on
Wednesday, May 28th.   The day will consist of Breakfast for teachers,
goody - bags, and dessert.   There are a total of 75 associates on
staff.   Kim Brown will take care of the "appreciation gift".  Bake list
was emailed to Carolyn Uminski.  Carolyn is coordinating the breakfast
and dessert.  Invitations were delivered to the staff today.  Flyers
will be going home with the students next week. 

        Kindergarten Orientation
                        Kindergarten Orientation was held on Monday,
April 28th.   75 students currently registered for the Fall Kindergarten
class. 

                        Nominations / Elections for Next Years Board
                        Per PTA bylaws, if there is only 1 nominee for
each board position, we do not need to send out ballots. 
                        Motion was made and seconded to elect the
following positions.
                        VP1 - Meghan Picone
                        Treasurer - Paula St.Laurent - Kuehl
                        The board position of President currently
remains an open position.  Please contact the PTA if you are interested
in this position.

                        Laptop
                        Returned the laptop and purchased a new one.
New laptop has Windows XP.  Open office has been added to the laptop.
We kept the laptop bag previously purchased.  No accounting software was
purchased. 
                        We purchased 2 Sony USB 2GB portable drives.
                        Motion was made and seconded to approve the
additional expenses of $67.00 for the laptop.

 NEW BUSINESS

                        Field Day
                        Field day this year is on June 4th, 5th and 6th.
PTA has not yet been contacted for assistance with this event.   

                        Audit Committee
                        For our financial protection, at the end of the
year we are required to hold an audit of the outgoing treasurer.  Audit
needs to be completed before incoming treasurer takes over.  Kelly
Behringer has offered her assistance with this committee.  We need about
four more volunteers on this committee.  Please contact Tammy Johnson if
you are interested. 

                        Returned Calendar Money
                        In March we found $150.00 in raffle money from
the Money Madness Fundraiser.   The money and tickets were not entered
into the fundraiser event.   This money is in the process of being
returned to the owners with a letter of apology.

                        Changes to By-Laws 
                        VP1 position was written into by-laws as a one
year term but should have been a 2 year term.  VP2 was written as a 2
year term but should have been a 1 year term.
                        According to the by-laws we need to notify the
PTA members 30 days in advance of voting on by-law changes.  We need to
vote as a PTA in June to make these changes to the by-laws.

                        Family Skate for the fall
                        Fall calendar is not yet available to book ice
time at Cushing rink.  Saturday looks to be a better day than Sunday.
Gail is looking for either the 2nd or 3rd Saturday in October.  Price of
ice will be going up.  She will report back at our next meeting.

                        Fall Event
                        Product sales are not going to do well in the
district next year given the economy and district fundraising policy.
We are looking to hold a joint event with the administration and
Extended Day when we return in the fall.

                        Meeting Closure
                Meeting adjourned at 7:35pm. Thanks to those who came to
the PTA meeting and we look forward to seeing you at the next PTA
meeting on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 6:30pm in the JR Briggs Elementary
School Library.
