Friends of Briggs/PTA Meeting

                        April 9, 2008



                        Tammy Johnson opened the meeting at 6:30pm with
20 members in attendance.


                        Treasurer's Report
                        Treasurer's report was presented.  Motion was
made to accept the Treasurer's report.
                        FOB PTO account been closed (as of March 20,
2008).  There was a remaining balance of $1.80 which will be transferred
into the JR Briggs PTA account.


                        Secretary's Report
                        The Secretary's report was presented.   Change
was made that the balance of the FOB PTO account was no longer $9.00.
It was reduced to $1.80 due to incurred bank fees for low balance.
                        Motion was made to accept the Secretary's
report.


                        School Committee
                        Laura Weiderman and Michelle Giannino presented
a summary of the FY09 budget proposals.
                        Seven budget proposals were presented.  Copies
of budget proposals are available upon request.

                        OLD BUSINESS


                        Taxes 
                        Our fiscal year ends 6/30/08.  We have 5 months
to file with the IRS.  Our filing deadline is 11/30/08.  Tammy has
requested a tax exemption determination letter from the MA PTA.
Tammy's mother will file the 9-90 form for us.


        Bunny Breakfast 
                        We made $673.00 dollars on the Bunny Breakfast.
Motion was made and seconded to donate $300.00 to AWRSD on behalf of
Chartwell's Food Service. 


        Mother Son Dance
                        Event went well.  Made approx $300.00 and after
expenses are deducted, we will be approx ($-100.00.) Photographer was
done by 8pm.   Suggestion for next year that the cafeteria staff needs
advance notice.  Building use form does not cover notifying cafeteria
staff. 

                        NEW BUSINESS
        Yearbook
                        Yearbook for this year has been completed.  We
have produced a full color, 56 page, yearbook.  208 orders were received
and we ordered 218 books.  $3313.30 due to G&B by April 15th .  If we
pay by 4/15, we will avoid paying for shipping.  Cost of yearbook
dropped to $15.42 because we ordered over 200 yearbooks.   Tammy paid
$34.34 out of pocket for paper, black printer cartridge, etc.   Motion
was made and seconded to reimburse Tammy for her out of pocket expense
to produce the book.  "Thank you" to the office staff for help
proofreading and name spelling!!!


        Staff Appreciation
                        Staff Appreciation Day will be held on
Wednesday, May 28th.   The day will consist of Breakfast for teachers,
goody - bags, and dessert.  Total of 75 staff associates.   Kim Brown
will take care of the goody - bags.  Motion was made and seconded to
allow $450.00 for Kim to compile goody-bags.


        Kindergarten Orientation
                        Monday, April 28th.  Paula will revise the flyer
for PTA registration.  64 students currently registered for the Fall
Kindergarten class.  PTA will present on the PTA as well as school
volunteer opportunities.  Wendy will present at Orientation to the
incoming Kindergarten parents.


                        Nominations / Elections for Next Years Board
                        Brenda Brown will coordinate sending out letter
of nominations.  Per PTA bylaws, if there is only 1 nominee for each
board position, we do not need to send out ballots.  Elections for next
year need to run in May.  School council positions due by April 9th.  We
have three names for school council from the staff and need names from
parents.

                        REQUEST FOR DONATIONS
                        Field Day - Donation of $252.51 Summer Olympics
with 14 stations.  Donation would help cover equipment, awards,
stickers, etc.  Motion was made and seconded to provide the funds to
Miss Cook.


                        Guidance - Lauren Badolato is requesting 2
performances about bullying.  Cost of approximately of
$1700.00(maximum).  Looking at scheduling to get the price down.
"Doing the right thing", and "All Stars".  Motion was made and seconded
to provide funds for the performances.


                        Music - $100.00 to pay for reeds.  1 box is
$30.00.  Motion was made and seconded to provide $100.00 to purchase
musical reeds for the band.


                        PTA Laptop - If we return the laptop that was
purchased with Vista, what is the cost?  If we keep it, what will it
cost to uninstall and install the programs needed?  (Office, Windows,
Quicken, etc.) 
                        Originally approved $600.00 for the purchase of
laptop and accessories (bag, card reader, and extended warranty).
Motion was made and seconded to try and return the laptop.

                        Family Skate
                        For the fall, if we hold a family skate, the ice
time cost will increase.  Gail Dumont is going to check Sunday afternoon
dates in October, tentatively book and come back with dates and prices
at our next meeting.
                        
                        Special Education
                        Ash/West Special Education Department submitted
a request for some supplies.  Request is for 3-6 timers, walkie-talkie
rechargeable batteries, a battery charger; Avery oversized folders and
timer clocks.   Total request for $270.00.  Motion was made to donate
$345.00 (remaining Bunny Breakfast profit) to Special Education Dept.

                        Walk to School
                        37 children signed up to walk to school from the
soccer field.


                        Meeting Closure
                Meeting adjourned at 8:00pm. Thanks to those who came to
the PTA meeting and we look forward to seeing you at the next PTA
meeting on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 6:30pm in the JR Briggs Elementary
School Library.
