        Vickie Nims, PTA President opened the meeting with 16 members in attendance.

        Treasurer’s Report
        Treasurer's report was presented.  Motion was made to accept the Treasurer's report.  Report can also be viewed on the PTO Today website.  PTOtoday.com

        Secretary's Report
        The Secretary's report was presented. Motion was made to accept the Secretary's report.

        NEW BUSINESS
        PTA
        PTA is now official.  Must be registered by October meeting to vote.  Paula St.Laurent is the membership coordinator.


        Welcome Back Packets
        Welcome packets were distributed the second week of school.  The packets contained PTA information, Volunteer form, Events list, box Tops information, PTA registration form, and Student Directory Information.

        Building Fees
        Budget cuts resulted in 1 janitor.  We have to hire a janitor for all after hour school functions.  $35.00 an hour on weekdays and $70.00 an hour on weekends.  2 hour minimum required.  Friday night is a weekday rate.

        We would need at least 6 hour for 1 event.
        We will need to either increase the $ of tickets to events to cover the janitor or pay it from the PTA funds which will result in less $ to donate to the classrooms.

        Fall Fundraiser
        Kick off on 10/1 with Yankee Candle.  Becky needs volunteers to help with pick up/delivery during PT Conferences.  Merchandise will not be left in the lobby.

        Fall Festival
        Gail is waiting to hear back from the rink with definite dates.


        PTA Membership
        Motion was made and seconded for PTA Membership fee of $4.00 per person for the school year.


        Grade Level Fundraiser
        Looking to change from grade level baskets.  Suggestion of monthly calendar similar to Little League.  Sell calendars through December and pull daily in January.  $5.00 for one calendar.  Sell 1 per student and we would make more $ than grade level baskets last year.  Winners would be contacted via phone and announced in the Briggs At Large.  Set a table up at Bring a Loved One to Lunch, PT conferences and Holiday Concert to sell calendars.

        A motion was made and seconded to replace grade level baskets with the Calendar Sale.  Chair Person (s) needed.

        Donations
        We want to keep 60% in the account and donate 40% to the grade levels and specials.  $300.00 to grade levels and $150 to specials. 

        $1800 = 6 grades and $750 = 5 specials. 
        Total of $2550 leaving a little over $8k.


        Life Cycle of a Butterfly
        Motion was made and seconded to approve payment of $200.00 for the 2nd and 5th grade presentation, “Life Cycle of a Butterfly”.

        Health Presentation
        Motion was made and seconded to approve payment of $1125.00 for the “Slim Good Body” presentation to be seen by the entire school.  1 day = 2 presentations

        Fast Forward
        The printer in the fast forward program is broken.  Fast Forward is requesting $130.00 to replace the broken printer.  The printer provides reports to parents and teachers of enrolled students.  Motion was made and seconded to provide $130.00 to the fast forward program for a new printer.

        Life Skills
        Life Skills replaced the RISE program.  Request was submitted for $500.00 to fund a presentation on bullying.  Life Skills already has their workbooks and will not need T-Shirts this year.  Motion was made and seconded to provide $500.00 to Life skills for bully presentation.

        1st Grade VCR
        The first grade VCR is broken.  The first grade was requesting a replacement.  Replacement VCR has been donated to the 1st grade by Rachel Fowler.  Thank you Rachel!

        Family Night Fundraisers
        We are looking to do a family night fundraiser at Pizzeria Uno and or Friendly’s restaurant.  Rachel Fowler has volunteered to chair these events. 

    Yearbook

        Tammy Johnson as volunteered to assist with layout this year.  This year we are breaking out into different jobs.  Student Council will take pictures.

        Raeanne Clark has offered to do the Adds section.  More add space will be allotted this year.
        Donielle will co-chair the year book and assist this year.
        Cover contest is due by April to Grynn and Barrett.
        Motion was made and seconded to sign the contract with Grynn and Barrett.


        Student Directories
        Forms for the directories went home in the welcome packets.  Donna Toothaker will be compiling the books.
        We need a place to print them.
        Forms due back by 10/1.  Cost will be $3.00.
        Brenda Brown will chair the student directories.


        Bring a Loved One to Lunch
        Week of 12/10.  Rachel Fowler will chair the event.
        Flyer needs to be updated.  Menu will be available a month before.
        Need to contact/ work with Renee Roy in the cafeteria.

    Closing the PTO Account

        All checks have cleared the PTO account with the exception of $87.50.  Motion was made and seconded to transfer all but $100.00 from the PTO to the PTA Account.

        Meeting Closure

      Meeting adjourned at 8pm. Thanks to those who came to the PTA meeting and we look forward to seeing you at the next PTO meeting on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at 6:30pm in the JR Briggs Elementary School Library.
