Meeting Commencement

            Co-President Kelly Behringer opened the meeting at 6:36pm with 13 parents and JR Briggs staff present.

 

Secretary’s Report

Brenda Brown presented the Secretary’s report. Motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the secretary’s report as presented. 

 

 

Treasurer’s Report

Kim Gauvin presented the Treasurer’s report. A copy of the latest bank statement was included in the report.  Motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the treasurer’s report as presented.

 

Old Business

Bunny Breakfast

            The annual Bunny Breakfast was held on Saturday, April 8th, 2006 from 8:00-11:00am at Overlook Middle School. There were plenty of volunteers, happy parents and excited children! An estimated 200 pictures with the Easter Bunny were taken. The crowd was more than expected and an increase over the past few years. Totals for the day’s events will be available at the next PTO meeting. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the breakfast so successful.

Yankee Candle

            The Yankee Candle Spring Fundraiser held between March 17th, 2006 and March 31st, 2006 was very successful. The PTO profit was approximately $7,500.00. Actual figures, winners of the teacher basket and top sellers will be available at the next PTO meeting. Delivery day is set for Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006.  Becky Pilsbury is still looking for volunteers to come and help sort the orders by classroom. Fall Fundraiser

Our Fall Fundraising program, with Katherine Beich, will kick off on September 21st, 2006.

Mother/Son Dance

            Gail Dumont is working on the Mother/Son dance scheduled for Friday, April 28th, 2006. Plans and supply needs are coming along. Gail is still looking for volunteers to help with setting up for the dance on Friday, April 28th, about 5:30pm. Gail can be reached at either 827-5619 or mummabean3@hotmail.com.

 

 

PTO Elections

            Letters of interest are still being accepted for any of the PTO Board positions. Letters of interest may be submitted for any position on the Board. Positions being vacated this year are; PTO President, 1 PTO Vice-President and the PTO Secretary. Letters may be submitted to the PTO mailbox in the office.

Bike Rodeo

The Bike Rodeo will take place in the J.R. Brigg’s parking lots on Saturday, May 13th from 9:00am to 12:00pm. The day’s events will include; bicycle safety checks by Gamache Cycle, bicycle registration and helmet checks by the Ashburnham Police Department, an obstacle course, event certificate presentation, Eastern Mountain Sports station and perhaps a K-9 demonstration. Volunteers are “DESPARATELY” needed to help out at the various stations. If you are interested in helping please contact Gail Dumont at either 827-5619 or mummabean3@hotmail.com.

Car Seat Safety Course

Kevin Ahearn and committee will present a Car Seat Safety Course on Saturday, April 29th, 2006 in the J.R. Brigg’s parking lot from 9:00am to 12:00am. Parents will be instructed on how to install their car seats. A certified safety instructor will check car seat installations and provide updated information as needed. Volunteers are still needed to help out at the various stations. If you are interested in helping please contact Gail Dumont at either 827-5619 or mummabean3@hotmail.com.

 

New Business

PTO Today Conference

Kim Gauvin requested that the PTO sponsor 4 people to go to the PTO Today Conference on May 3rd, 2006. The tickets are $10.00 each. Motion was made, seconded and approved to purchase the 4 tickets for Kelly Behringer, Kim Gauvin, Brenda Brown and Becky Pilsbury to attend the conference.

School Council

            Letters of interest are being accepted for 5 parent openings on the School Council. There are 2 1-year positions and 3 2-year positions. Meetings are held once a month from 5:45pm – 7:15pm. Responsibilities include but are not limited to; advising on Student Handbook, advising on School Improvement Plans and advising on the School Budget. Letters of interest may be submitted to Candace Wright or Andrea McGrath.

Kindergarten Registration

The PTO will be on hand to answer any questions new parents may have regarding the PTO. We will share information on the PTO, Boxtops for Education and the existing PTO events. Kindergarten Registration is schedule for May 1st, 2006.

Incoming Kindergarten Information Pamphlets

A motion was made, seconded and approved to purchase 2-part Kindergarten Information packets for the upcoming kindergarten orientation. The cost of the pamphlets is: $251.00. The pamphlets answer many questions, in a “kid’s version” format, that children entering a school system for the first time might have!

Turn TV off Week

The Community Partnership has requested $200.00 from the PTO to cover programs being offered in the Community during Turn off TV week; April 24th through April 30th, 2006. A motion was made, seconded and approved to give $200.00 to the Community Partnership for these programs. 

 

Briggs Night with the Tornadoes

The Tornadoes provided information on hosting a JR Briggs Night with the Tornadoes. The information was received too late to take advantage of the program for this year. Kristen will contact the Tornadoes and bring details on the program for the 2006-2007 School year.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Day

The annual Teacher/Staff Appreciation Day is scheduled for Wednesday, May 31st, 2006. We are looking for two volunteers to chair this event. If interested please contact Kelly Behringer at 827-6009 or at RFBEHRINGERCPA@comcast.net. Breakfast foods will be solicited from parents. A motion was made, seconded and approved to allot up to $500.00 for the luncheon to be catered.

Traveling Theater on the Mount

A request was made of the PTO to allot $200.00 for the Traveling Theater on the Mount to add another performance of “Miss Nelson is Missing”, to the existing 1 performance on October 27th, 2006. This additional performance will allow the entire school to see the play.  A motion was made, seconded and approved to give $200.00 for the additional performance.

 

Meeting Closure

            Co-President Kelly Behringer closed the meeting at 8:16pm. Thanks to everyone who came to the meeting. We look forward to seeing your return to future meetings and the upcoming PTO events. We invite parents, teachers and staff who missed tonight’s meeting to attend the next PTO meeting on Thursday, May 11th, 2006 at 6:30pm.  If you wish to be removed from the minutes email distribution please let me know.
