Friends of Briggs/PTO Meeting

Meeting Commencement

            Co-President Ann Horgan opened the meeting at 6:41pm with 13 parents and JR Briggs staff present.

 

Secretary’s Report

Brenda Brown presented the Secretary’s report. Motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the secretary’s report as presented.  

 

Treasurer’s Report

Kim Gauvin presented the Treasurer’s report. A copy of the latest bank statement was included in the report. Kim presented new forms from the PTO Today website to use for event cash disbursements and event purchases. These forms will soon be available on the J.R. Brigg’s website and at the office. Motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the treasurer’s report as presented.

 

Old Business

Yankee Candle

            The Yankee Candle Spring Fundraiser will begin on March 17th, 2006 and end on March 31st, 2006 Becky Pilsbury is still looking for volunteers to come in the week of April 1st to help collate the orders. Becky can be reached at 827-6663 or beckymp411@yahoo.com.

Fall Fundraiser

Becky will work with the office to select a start date in September. Our Fall Fundraising program will be with Katherine Beich for the next school year.

Yearbook

            The yearbook price has been set. Order forms will go out to the students the week of March 13th with a due date of April 1st. The estimated arrival date is approximately 7 weeks after the due date.

Family Skate

            The Family Skate event on Sunday, March 5th was very well attended. It was estimated that 150 or so students and their families enjoyed the skating and snack-bar!  We will keep this event for next year’s calendar.

Read Across America

            The Read across America program ran from March 7th through March 10th.  Ann Horgan reported that more than ½ of the J.R. Briggs students participated in the program. The cake from BJ’s was well received!

 

 

 

New Business

Bunny Breakfast

            The annual Bunny Breakfast is scheduled for Saturday, April 8th, 2006 from 8:00-11:00am at Overlook Middle School. Plans are well underway. Volunteers are coming forward to help out that day. Steve White has agreed to run the kitchen for the event. Posters are up and ticket flyers will go home soon.  Anyone still interested in helping out that day please contact any of the Board members.

Mother/Son Dance

            Gail Dumont is working on the Mother/Son dance scheduled for Friday, April 28th, 2006. Plans and supply needs are coming along. Ticket flyers will go out the week of April 3rd. The theme is Beatles and Beach Boys.

PTO Elections

            Letters of interest are currently being accepted for any of the PTO Board positions. Letters of interest may be submitted for any position on the Board. Positions being vacated this year are; PTO President, 1 PTO Vice-President and the PTO Secretary. Letters may be submitted to the PTO mailbox in the office and are due by April 13th, 2006. Ballots for the PTO positions will go out to student’s families after the April 13th PTO meeting. Election results will be announced at the May PTO meeting.

Car Seat Safety Course

Kevin Ahearn and committee will present a Car Seat Safety Course on Saturday, April 1st, 2006 in the J.R. Brigg’s parking lot from 9:00am to 12:00am. Parents will be instructed on how to install their car seats. A certified safety instructor will check car seat installations and provide updated information as needed. Supplies needed for the day are 12 pool noodles, a ream of paper for the flyers and 6 rolls of shelf liner. Motion was made, seconded and approved for the PTO to purchase the pool noodles, shelf liners and 1 ream of paper for the event. Channel 8 will be notified of the event for publicity. The Westminster Early Child Coordinator will inform the area preschools of the event.

Bike Rodeo

Kevin Ahearn will be doing bike safety at J.R. Briggs on May 10th, 11th and 12th. The Bike Rodeo will take place in the J.R. Brigg’s parking lots on Saturday, May 13th from 9:00am to 12:00pm. The day’s events will include; bicycle safety checks by Gamache Cycle, bicycle registration and helmet checks by the Ashburnham Police Department, an obstacle course, event certificate presentation, Eastern Mountain Sports station and perhaps a K-9 demonstration. Volunteers are needed to help out at the various stations. If you are interested in helping please contact Gail Dumont at either 827-5619 or mummabean3@hotmail.com.

Meeting Closure

            Co-President Kelly Behringer closed the meeting at 8:16pm. Thanks to everyone who came to the meeting. We look forward to seeing your return to future meetings and the upcoming PTO events. We invite parents, teachers and staff who missed tonight’s meeting to attend the next PTO meeting on Thursday, April 13th, 2006 at 6:30pm.  If you wish to be removed from the minutes email distribution please let me know.
