Coffee House PTO News… Don’t forget to order your tickets for the Parent-Teacher Night Out, Nov. 3rd. TOYS Toys in school are a problem. If toys are sent in with your child, they must be limited to use during recess.Making school a priority…Make attendance job #1 Let your kids know that unless they are sick, they must go to school. Try to schedule routine dentist and doctor appointments after school hours or during school vacations. If possible, take family vacations during school breaks. Please remember that the school is required to report excessive absences. As noted in our student handbook, “The academic success of our students is directly related to their daily attendance. Parents will receive written notification throughout the school year if their child’s absences, tardiness, or early dismissals may affect their progress in school, and will become part of the student record.” Fourth Grade News Our fourth grade students are participating in the scientific study,” Buds, Leaves, and Global Warming”. (Visit the Briggs at Large web site to view the Harvard Forest link.) Harvard Forest Ecologist, John O’Keefe, is studying how our growing season might be affected by climate change. Similar to his study, our students visit an assigned tree weekly and note color change and leaf drop. This data will be posted on Harvard Forest’s web site along with other school’s data. In the spring, the students will have the opportunity to visit their same tree and collect data on bud burst. This field study allows students to experience real world scientific method.Music News
