What is WAVE?

Westminster Ashburnham Value Education was founded by citizens of Ashburnham and Westminster as a foundation in support of educational opportunities.  The organization seeks to raise private funds to finance grants for educational and creative projects in the two communities.

In the 15 years since its inception, WAVE has awarded over 75K in grants to fund many types of educational, cultural & creative projects that may not have been possible without WAVE support - that is without the support of members of our two communities.  Last year we received $12K in grant requests and were only able to fully or partially fund half that amount.
This year we would like to raise 10K and we need to do it by the end of the year.  Most of WAVE’S money comes from direct donations and every contribution is fully tax deductible and eligible for corporate matching funds.  You can also support WAVE by stopping by the 5th Annual Artisan’s Fair to be held Nov. 11, 9-3 at WES.  This is a great opportunity to enjoy and purchase the work of a wide variety of local artists and craftspeople.

Visit our table during OPEN HOUSE – JRB Lobby.

Extended Day

Our Extended Day Program offers child care 6:30 am – 6:00 pm throughout the school year.  Please call, 978-827-1412.

PTO…

The PTO is seeking donations of treats to be used in this year’s Halloween Goody Bags.  We will be accepting donations from now until Tuesday, Oct. 10th.  Please send in your bags of treats marked “PTO” with your children to the school office.  Thank you for your support.

NOTE PADS

To assist with home-school communication, we offer tear-off note pads - $2.00 each.  These are a handy way to send notes to school!  Check them out during Open House.

Meet Mr. Cucchiara

My name is Craig Cucchiara and I live in Leominster with my wife and three daughters.  My wife teaches high school English and is currently on leave from Leominster High School.  I grew up in Fitchburg and attended public schools there.  I remember my teachers very well, especially my elementary school teachers who provided me with a rich educational experience and a passion for learning.  I received my undergraduate degree in English Literature from Fitchburg State College and my masters degree in Elementary Education from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.  Prior to teaching, my most recent employment was with a Waltham based communications company as a project manager in facilities build-out and network expansion.  I have been a stay-at-home dad for three years, working on my masters degree, and dreaming of landing a job as an elementary school educator.

My early experience in the Ashburnham / Westminster Regional School District at J.R.B. has been very positive.  All of the staff and administration have provided me with support and encouragement and have truly made me feel part of a family.  I feel that I have landed in a very special place to begin my career as a teacher.  I hope to continue to improve my skills as a teacher working with this very supportive group of educators who so obviously love children and love their work.

Parent Involvement in the early years promotes success in later years…

Parents of early learners often wonder “How can I prepare my child to succeed in elementary school?  Research has provided some specific answers.

Encourage reading at home

Read with your child every day for example, and take “field trips” to new places.  Do activities that involve reading and math.  Make learning fun!

Express high (yet realistic) expectations

You might say, “I’m so proud that you…You’re going to learn so many news things.  Someday, you will be teaching me.”

Get involved in your child’s education

Keep in touch with teachers.  Volunteer at school or contribute at home.  Talk with your child about how wonderful school is.

Reach us via email…

Don’t forget you can communicate with school personnel via email (ie cwright@awrsd.org). A staff email directory is available on the JRB web site.

Attention All Parents!

Don’t Throw Away That Empty Printer Cartridge!

Once again, Briggs Elementary is collecting empty inkjet printer cartridges.  The program will directly benefit our school and the students (the money will be used to pay for new computer hardware and software) and it is great for the environment.

The empty inkjet cartridges that we usually throw away as trash can be recycled and remanufactured. Bring those empty cartridges to school and put them in the collection box outside the computer lab. Note: be sure to place your cartridges in the original box or a Ziploc bag to protect your child’s backpack from leaks. Our school will be paid up to $4.00 for each empty inkjet cartridge that has a print head, regardless of the brand or type.

You can help!   Any inkjet cartridge with a print head can be recycled: HP, Lexmark, Xerox, Compaq, Brother, Dell, Canon, or Apple.  Epson cartridges cannot be recycled they don’t have a print head. Also, we are not collecting laser printer cartridges.
