News from the BEST Program

We are excited to welcome some new members to the BEST family.  We now have ten students, two half-time paraprofessionals, four full-time paraprofessionals, and one special education teacher.  It is great to have such a talented team of professionals to work with our students and support one another.  Our newest teachers are Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Ciesluk.  Mrs. Johnson comes to us from Gardner and has experience working with children in the classroom as well as at home with her own kids.  Mrs. Ciesluk lives in Westminster with her three daughters and has been working as a substitute in the district.  We are blessed to have people with positive attitudes and willingness to learn.  If you see Mrs. Johnson or Mrs. Ciesluk in the halls or in the classrooms please say hello and welcome them to Briggs.

SHOW YOUR SUPPORT…Go Cris

The 6th Annual Ashburnham-Westminster Community Benefit Hockey Game has been scheduled for 5:00 PM on Saturday, March 31, 2007, at the Iorio Arena on the Campus of Cushing Academy in Ashburnham.  This year’s game will benefit the family of Cris Rasmussen of Ashburnham.  Cris is a 4th grader at Briggs.  He has Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus and is confined to a wheelchair.  The goal of this year’s game is to raise money to offset the cost of a van equipped with a special lift ramp to help with Cris' transportation.

This year’s game will feature Local Police Officers, Correction Officers and State Police Officers playing against faculty from the Ashburnham / Westminster School Systems. Former NHL and USA Olympian Scott Young will be playing for the Police Team. The mascots from the Worcester Tornadoes "Twister" and the Worcester Sharks "Finz," will be at the game for the entertainment of the fans both young and old. There will be a "Chuck a Puck" contest between periods as well as a spectacular Chinese Auction featuring numerous items including Sports Memorabilia, and tickets to area sporting events including the Bruins, Celtics, Tornadoes and Sharks and gift certificates to local restaurants. A part time Police Reserve Officer from Upton, Shanna Jackman, will be singing the National Anthem and there will be a performance from the Police Pipes and Drums of Worcester before the game.

The game tickets are $5.00 each for both children and adults.

For those not able to attend the game but would like to donate to this worthy cause, raffle tickets are available for $5.00 each. Checks can be made out to Cris Rasmussen with Charity Game in the memo area.

Please contact Mrs. Lawrence, school nurse or the school office for tickets to this event.
