Auction

As you know, we are planning a great night of fun and food, March 30th at the Colonial Hotel.  We wish to thank all who have generously donated an item or service to support our scholarship funds for the Enrichment Program as well as the Extended Day Program.  We would love to hear from more…everyone has hidden skills that they may wish to offer.

Please send in your ideas, as soon as possible.  We are compiling our auction brochure and want to be sure we do not miss your service or item.  It is OK to think out of the box.

Kindergarten News

Environmental Print

  Parents can help children discover and use print found in their daily lives in a number of ways that do not require a great deal of time.  At an early age, children can identify their favorite cereal box by its logo.  They are bombarded with a variety of traffic signs, billboards, and logos on restaurants.  While walking to the bus or riding in the car, establish the habit of asking your child about the print they see.

ï            What kind of writing or pictures do you see?

ï            What does it mean to you?

ï            What dolor or shape is it?

ï            Do you know something else with the same color or shape?

ï            What letters, words, or numbers do you know?

  Play guessing games while traveling.  On a trip in the car, play a guessing game similar to “I Spy” where children listen to and look for clues.  For example; “I see a sign that’s red and white.  It has eight sides.  Where is it?  What does it mean?”

  Families who make time each day to share books and other print materials with their children can experience the joy of learning together.

News from the Office

  Toys and games have a time and place.  School is not necessarily the right place and during class time is not the right time to play with toys.  We need your help…please monitor what your child is bringing to school.  Items should only be used during recess time, and should not include any electronic items (including Game Boys, mp3 players, cell phones, etc.)  Precious and expensive items should NOT come to school.

  We also do not allow the wearing of hats and kerchiefs in our school as stated in our student handbook.  We work hard to establish appropriate customs within our school community, it was determined that if we do not promote the wearing of “caps” for boys, than it was appropriate to discourage the wearing of kerchiefs for girls.  (Medical exemptions, please see… Mrs. Lawrence, Mrs. Wright or Mrs. McGrath).  We appreciate your help with these matters.

A Message From

 Officer Ahearn

Please DO NOT enter the horseshoe when the cruiser’s lights are turned on at the entrance of the first driveway. Please use the far entrance as a means to the back parking lot. Passing buses while red lights are on is unlawful and could result in a fine.  Thank you for your cooperation in helping to ensure the safety of our students.

Parent Smart

By A. P. Murphy

* Laugh a lot!

Laughter increases feel-good endorphins and lowers stress levels.

* Get the Family moving

Enlist your child’s help in picking a physical activity everyone can enjoy.  Getting your children active will go a long way toward lifelong good health.

·   Avoid labels

Childhood pigeon holds (like “soccer star” or “math whiz”) can stick around well into adulthood.

·   Read to kids every   night

Even 10-15 minutes per day can make a huge difference in developing language skills.  Kids with a variety of reading materials score higher on standardized tests.

·   Catch kids being good

If you pay attention and verbally compliment good behavior every day, you probably will see less of the bad.  Another upside to positive reinforcement:  it cuts down on sibling rivalry.

Pizza Kits Are Back!

Grade 5 at J. R. B. has launched a Little Caesar’s Pizza Kit sale to raise money for scholarships to Nature’s Classroom.  Please take advantage of this opportunity to purchase these yummy meals in a kit.

Thanks in advance for your support.
